That is how it is with so many of us; we have trouble believing in ourselves. I know that in life I have made so many mistakes and fallen so short of the goal that I occasionally don’t believe in myself. Simply put, I have struggled too many times to put much faith in myself. So I am left not feeling too good about who I am, what I have done, and where I am going in life. I can’t even begin to count how many times I have lost my way in this world!
Yet, there is one who still loves me! His name is Jesus. Listen to his words and see if you find any encouragement. He said, “For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.” (John 3:16, NIV). The very moment in life where I realize I can’t believe in myself, God does something unexpected! God asks me to believe in him! God asked me to believe in Jesus, and in doing so, I find my way again and live!

Oh, I so see myself in what you just said here! I too, have fallen so many times and find it difficult at those times to believe in myself, but knowing that God believes in me….so much so that He sent His Son, Jesus, to die for me….for ME! Me…who has sinned! Me…who has let loved ones down! Me…who has fallen on my face so many times, my hands and knees are calloused from trying to “push” myself up! Here’s the beauty…..at those times, when I can push no more….when weak worn legs will stand no more…..God, my amazing Father, reaches down from the glories of Heaven and gently lifts me up…gives me a “hug” and stands me on my feet once more! Thank you Father and thank you Keith for the reminder! I AM LOVED AND I AM GOING HOME!!!

A while back while I was reading John 3:16, God said, “read on.” Verse 17 is a great, powerful companion to verse 16. It says, “For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him.”
No matter what I’ve done, no matter how far off the path my Lord and Savior is not going to condemn me, but breath life into me.
I no longer can read John 3:16, without reading verse 17.

Steve,
It is great to hear from you. And you are right. As long as Jesus is our Savior and we believe in him, that is believe in his message, his work and ministry of redemption and his person we can place our hope in Christ as Savior. God has not asked us to place our faith in ourselves, but in the Son of God. There and there alone we find our hope. In Christ we become liberated from sin and purchased as God’s own all at the same time through the cross of Christ if we believe. I am glad you are following along and welcome your discussion.
