“When it was almost time for the Jewish Passover, Jesus went up to Jerusalem.” (John 2:13, NIV)
What a sublime yet humbling moment it must have been for Jesus to share in the Passover at this the beginning of his ministry. To witness the sacrifice of the year old lamb and share in the Passover meal. To reflect on how the Hebrews applied the blood of the lamb upon the door post and frame of their homes that night. And to meditate for a moment upon that terrible night when the Lord seeing that blood passed over that house so long ago in order that the first born son might live.
Now, here, Jesus is sharing in the Passover, reflecting upon God’s deliverance of the Hebrews from Egypt. But, knowing in three short years, he will himself become the Passover Lamb in order that his blood shed on the cross of Calvary might allow those all over the world who believe in him to lay claim to eternal life.
